How Tall Is A Kitchen Island

How tall is a kitchen island. A low stool is best suited to a 36 inch tall counter. Check out the four diagrams below. Some older homes will have counters that vary in height generally a little shorter than the standard kitchen countertop height but if the home has been custom designed for a taller person the counters could be quite a bit taller.
Regular kitchen chairs are typically 18 inches from the floor making the ideal bar height 30 inches. At minimum an island should be 4 feet long and a little more than 2 feet deep but it must also have room for people to move and work around it. Kitchen islands suck space.

Sometimes a kitchen island or transition space between kitchen and family room will also measure 36 high. You either have to be wealthy or an engineer to achieve it.

And a barstool is best suited to a 42 to 48 inch tall counter. Ideally you should have about 12 inches between a seat and a bartop. Hopefully that gets your gears spinning.
